1. Match AU review. Summary

Match was one of the first dating sites to market. These days it is still a much loved place for flirting and fun with a great instant messaging function and tried and tested Matching methodologies.

We wanted to be sure that Match performed well in Australia and have conducted an in-depth review of the service for you.

Practical test and experience: Good performance from one of Australia’s finest. Lots of members online and responding to out messages. Good score.
Functions: Features and functions are kept to a minimum on Match. The site concentrates on only providing what is necessary for flirting and dating! – no unnecessary toys or games.
User-friendliness: Ok. Match could do better here. They have a good FAQ section but getting a direct response from a customer care agent is not easy.
Value for money: Match is decent value for money with competitive pricing and a service that is proven to deliver for its customers.

2. Match AU Experience Test

As with all the sites we review on dating-navigator, our conclusions were based on thorough research and - in particular - usage of the service and all its aspects. To do this we created a profile on the site as a man looking for a woman and set about using the service as we would if we were genuinely searching for love. This meant browsing through all the different parts of the service, checking out all the features and starting up some very first interactions with out matches. We are always sure not to take these conversations very far, as we don't wish to deceive the people using the service any more than is strictly necessary. Nonetheless, this process is absolutely essential for us to establish a clear picture of how good a service really is.

First ideas about Match AU

Match gives the impression of being precisely like the traditional kind of dating service it is. The layout is uncluttered and easy to navigate and the structure is very familiar. You quickly are presented with a list of suitable Matches and then you can express your interest by winking or chatting to the ones you like.

Match has been around longer then nearly any of the services out on the market. It is in this sense a trusted provider and one that has been the starting point for a lot of relationships all over the world.

One new service offer from Match is their Events programme that is being set in motion. This promises to bring an offline element to the service and make the offer is much more unique.

Contact Test

To get an idea of the number of members online, we ran an interaction assessment. Dating websites come in numerous distinct shapes, but the most meaningful thing for the client is how many conversations he or she makes. How many individuals get in contact and how many people react to communications. Our contact mark develops a grade against this crucial assessment for every site we review. Match AU did fairly well in this test. There were a lot of members online and it looked like a respectable distribution of users over the nation.

Results: Registered as a man, we instigated 100 contact requests on Match. These contained a blend of all the different ways of expressing interest. For example, by messaging or ‘winking’. In return we got 28 answers. This is a very respectable outcome for men getting in contact with women on dating services and evidences a good level of members.

Match AU profiles

The profiles look respectable on Match. They are nicely laid out, every member must submit at least one image of themselves, and there is usually  a fair bit of personal data visible. The type of person on Match differs substantially, but generally you can understand that most are looking for something long term (photos are more friendly than sexy, for example).

Profile suggestion: When you’re spending time or money with Match, ensure you assign time on making your profile count. Answer the questions, get your preferences right and put up lots of interesting pictures of you! Time spent on these activities should not be time lost!

Are there any fake users or Scammers on Match?

Fake profiles can be a difficulty for nearly all dating services and often the test is not whether they have fake users, but how many of them are out there. However, our impression of Match AU was really fairly reassuring. Match features a decent routine of profile approval and mostly the profiles looked authentic to us.

Conclusion Match AU Snapshot Test: Good performance from Match. We enjoyed the high level of information on profiles. We saw lots of active members and decent level of respondents.

3. Features and profile quality on Match AU

The registration procedure is quicker than you might think. It only requires a handful of minutes to get through the process, though you do have to submit a photo, so make sure that you have a good one ready(Note: You are obliged to upload a pic at the end of the reg process). The vast majority of data in your profile is obtained after the reg process and you are prompted to say more about yourself every time you log in.

Having finished this easy registration, you are free to look through all the Matches and use of all the features. These include:

Search

There are lots of different elements in the search offer. On top of standard filters around location, education, income etc there are some interesting search buttons like 'reverse Match' and 'It's their birthday' button - which at least guarantees you something to talk about.

Daily 6

The 'Daily 6' takes you beyond your own search criteria and presents Matches to you that it thinks are suitable. These are 6 Matches highlighted to you daily that you can like or dislike.

Match Affinity

Match Affinity is an upgrade available to you if you are interested in getting as more scientific approach with personality profiling. You can work through the profiling questionnaire for free, but to make use of your results there will be additional fees for this extra service.

Communication Options

There are several different ways in which you can get in touch with your matches on this service. You can express your interest in someone by 'winking' at them or by 'liking' them in the daily 6 funciton. You can also write them a e-mail style message or alternatively start an instant messaging conversation with them. Even viewing a profile is a kind of communication because if you view a premium profile, then the person you are viewing can tell you've had a look.

Summary of Functions and Features: Match does not try to be something fancy and has only the standard features required of a dating service. This seems appropriate to the brand. Nothing fancy but adequate.

4. Match AU Customer Care

Customer friendliness is a very significant issue with online dating sites. The extent to which sites respond to the worries and problems their customers have, changes massively between services. How straightforward is it to get hold of customer support? How promptly do they deal with customer questions. Does the site operate auto rebilling and how easy is it to cancel this?

Contacting Customer Services on Match AU

There is a good and useful FAQ section on the Match site that walks you through all the processes on the site and questions you might have. On the downside, it is hard to find an email address to write to and there is no phone number. Not brilliant.

Match AU layout

The design is straightforward and transparent with an emphasis on usability as opposed to showiness. The most impressive work is the profile sections that are very well structured and presents your Matches in an appealing manner.

The Match AU mobile app

Match is equipped with both good mobile browser compatibility and good apps for iPhone and Android. The apps are well designed and feature a more modern layout . It's a great addition to the service to be able to browse through your Matches on the go.

Summary of Customer Friendliness at Match AU A simply designed site with a good looking app, Match scores highly on usability. However, it is disappointingly difficult to get in touch with customer services. This is especially so for such a well-established brand.

5. Match AU. Value for Money?

Most dating services start with a free taster of their product, but to get full use of the site and really communicate with other people you nearly always have to pay for a Premium Account. Match AU is no exception and to talk with your partner recommendations, you have to pay. We wouldn’t quibble with the need for this. In the end, customers will always have to pay if they want to use a reliable service. Rather, we concentrate on how Match AU comes out on a ‘value for money’ equation. Is it good value relative to other sites on the market?

Benefits of Match AU’s paid for service
  • Send and read instant messages
  • Access the service on your mobile
  • See who’s interested in you
Match AU price list:
  • A 6 months subscription costs  $15.99 per month
  • A 3 months subscription costs  $25.99 per month
  • To sign up just for one month only costs  $29.99

*these prices were current at the time of writing, but may change

We recommend you choose the six month deal. It’s a large initial cost, but once you’ve made this commitment you’ll be able to relax and use the service well.

Be careful: Premium Membership will renew automatically unless you instruct Match not to.
Conclusion about Match AU’s value for money: Match's prices are very competitive and while the service is nothing unusual, it does have brand authority. This 'fame' factor is worth something and overall we are convinced that Match is decent value for money.

Final tip: Always search for the common ground when dating online. A service like Match gives you plenty of information about a potential dates interests and hobbies. Use it, read it and make your decisions based upon it. Of all the factors that go into the melting pot of love, shared interests is probably the most sustainable. We all lose our charms in the end, as Erhta Kit sang, but if you both like crikect or crochet you will have something to talk about, do, or enjoy together until your dying day.
